The Field Hockey BC athlete programs are growing each year and have proven to be successful, sending athletes to compete on Canada’s National Men’s Team. The aim of the programs is to provide standardized and consistent technical training for juniors, preparing athletes for junior and national team opportunities. Opportunities are offered at both the Regional and the Provincial levels.
WHAT’S THE FIRST STEP?
The Regional Program: U15 T2T Boys February – April (20 hours)
- for U18 Boys program information, please see the Provincial U18 T2C Boys Program page.
The focus of the Regional Program is to ensure that high performance athletes are able to train in their own region, with certified coaches, throughout the year. The development training creates the foundation for the provincial program.
In the Regional Program, athletes experience:
- Skills Training
- Tactical Strategies and Game Context Drills
- Sport Science
- Possible selection to High Performance Tournaments
- Possible selection to Provincial Representative Teams
WHAT’S THE SECOND STEP?
Regional athletes are selected to compete for BC in the Provincial Program (spring/summer) – 30 hour program
U15 T2T Boys April-July/August, U18 T2C Boys March-June
The Provincial program is targeted at BC’s top athletes. Through focused and periodized training, BC athletes are provided the opportunity to work with some of Canada’s best field hockey coaches in an inspiring and competitive environment.
In the Provincial Program, athletes experience:
- Domestic competitions
- Field Hockey Canada’s National Championships
- BC’s Invitational Tournaments
- International competitions such as CAN/AM Challenge
- International Tours
BC’s consistent success over the past few decades can be attributed to our pursuit of excellence and our athlete-centered performance model. Provincial teams typically commence training the first weekend of June.
