The Competition – Introduction context is designed for coaches with 2+ years of experience coaching field hockey that are wanting to take the next step. This context is most appropriate for coaches of Club teams or a U15 Provincial team, that are introducing athletes to the skills of the game and to competitive hockey.
The courses below are required to achieve Trained status:
Note: all Field Hockey coaches in Canada also need to complete Field Hockey Canada’s Safe Sport requirements.
NCCP Emergency Action Plan
This short 15-minute eLearning module teaches coaches how to create and use an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) in order to respond calmly, quickly and effectively if a sport participant is seriously injured during practice or competition. This course is a pre-requisite for the NCCP Planning a Practice course.

NCCP Planning a Practice
This 5-hour course prepares coaches to plan safe and effective practices.

NCCP Teaching & Learning
This 5-hour course helps coaches understand effective teaching methods, and prepares coaches to promote learning and self-esteem in their athletes.

FHC Competition – Introduction Course
This Field Hockey specific course focuses on learning the game, practice planning and the basic analysis of performance.
Couse Delivery: Four 3-hour Online Delivery sessions followed by one 3-hour on-field session
Cost: $150-250

NCCP Basic Mental Skills
In this 4-hour course, coaches will learn how to recognize and develop tools to help an athlete with goal setting, focus and anxiety control.

NCCP Design a Basic Sport Program
In this 5-hour course, coaches will learn how to build a program structure based on training and competitive opportunities.

NCCP Sport Nutrition
This course will teach coaches basic nutrition for athletes, as well as signs of dehydration and disordered eating.

Evaluation
To become Certified in the Competition-Introduction Context coaches need to successfully complete an evaluation, including a portfolio and on-field assessment.
Coaches must apply to Field Hockey BC to be evaluated.
