Job Opportunities with FHBC – Sport Development Manager and Events & Officials Coordinator

Field Hockey BC is hiring!

There are currently two job opportunities with FHBC, as a Sport Development Manager and also as an Events & Officials Coordinator.

The position of Sport Development Manager is a new role within the Society staffing structure. This role is designed to plan and implement program delivery intent on improving the knowledge base and practical application of male and female coaches and officials throughout the province of British Columbia. The Sport Development Manager will be directly responsible for the delivery of both the National and Provincial Coach Education and Officials Education training and certification program, the initiation of an FHBC coach and official mentorship program, and the further development and delivery of a targeted coach and officials professional development pathway.

The position of Events and Officials Coordinator is designed to provide logistical support in line with the operational requirements of the annual Field Hockey BC event calendar and event based officiating calendar, the officials development pathway and the delivery of the Officials Professional Development and Certification Program, as well as, the oversight for facility bookings and equipment provision to Field Hockey BC programming. The Events and Officials Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination of each of the areas outlined within this job description and will report as a staff member of the Society to the Executive Director.

How to Enter:

  1. Take a photo or video with your Spring League team, post it on Instagram and tag @fieldhockeybc.
  2. E-mail your photo/video to info@fieldhockeybc.com or send it to us via Direct Message on Instagram. Please include your name, contact information and club.

The next deadline for submission is Monday, June 3rd. Winner will be announced Wednesday, June 5th. 

Rules:

Photos and videos can be on or off field, individual or team photos. Submissions must contain one or more players in their club uniform to be considered. Individuals may submit up to three entries. By entering the contest, you consent that Field Hockey BC  has to right to publish and re-distribute your photo or video.

Prizes:

One contest winner will be selected per submission window. The contest winner will receive a free “Field Hockey is Life” t-shirt from Field Hockey BC

VILFHA: Playoff Recap

What better way to wrap up the month of March than with a beautiful weekend of playoff field hockey on Vancouver Island! The Vancouver Island Ladies’ Field Hockey Association held playoff finals across all three divisions last weekend. All teams played exciting hockey with a number of close and competitive games. Congratulations to the Playoff Champions:

  • Div 1: Mariners (2-1 W vs Patriots)
  • Div 2: Sailors (4-3 Shootout W vs Lynx 2)
  • Div 3: Stellers (5-1 W vs Lynx 3)

Support the Canadian Women’s National Team in their Tokyo 2020 Campaign!

The Canadian Women’s National Team have their sights set on Tokyo 2020. With this goal in mind, they are fundraising for the FIH Hockey Series Finals in Valencia, Spain with a goal of raising $75,000 to support their travel and accommodation costs.

These inspiring women, many of which grew up playing for Team BC and for local clubs and school teams, have uprooted their lives to pursue their Olympic dream. Check out the Tokyo 2020 Campaign website to learn more about their incredible story and how you can support their journey!

John McBryde Celebrates his 80th at UBC Wright Field

On March 9, 2019, the day that John McBryde turns 80 years old, he will be out on the pitch playing for his men’s league Vancouver Hawks team. As one of Field Hockey BC’s longest active members, it seems fitting that his 80th will be spent playing the sport to which he has dedicated so much of his life!

John was born in Maryborough, Australia and was the captain of the first Australian National Field Hockey team to win an Olympic medal when they took bronze in Tokyo, 1964. In the late 1960’s, John came to Canada and became the Head Coach of the Canadian Men’s Field Hockey team. He also served 25 years on the FIH Equipment Committee and currently acts as an Advisor on the Canadian Masters Hockey Steering Committee.

John has dedicated himself to the growth and development of field hockey for over 60 years and throughout that time, he has never stopped playing. Field Hockey BC would like to invite our community to come out to John’s game on his 80th birthday in celebration of everything he has contributed to our sport. John’s Vancouver Hawks team plays at 3 pm at UBC Wright Field on Saturday March 9, 2019. We hope to see you all out there supporting one of Field Hockey BC’s most iconic players!

Apply for an FHBC Foundation Bursary!

The Field Hockey BC Foundation is now accepting applications for a number of bursaries which provide financial support for athletes, coaches and officials. Visit the FHBC Foundation website for a full list of bursaries offered through the Foundation, as well as their eligibility requirements and application windows.

The following bursaries are currently open with an application deadline of March 27, 2019:

FHBC Athlete Assistance Bursary: The Field Hockey BC Athlete Assistance Bursary is designed to support male and female athletes in the FHBC Regional Program. An award of up to $500 will be distributed to encourage the continued athletic development of our Regional Program athletes.

Allyn Murison Grassroots Bursary: The Allyn Murison Grassroots bursary is designed to support female athletes under the age of 12 in their field hockey development. Five awards of up to $100 will be awarded with the purpose of helping young athletes get involved in our sport.

FHBC Coaching Development Bursary: The Field Hockey BC Coaching Development bursary is designed to support the professional development of FHBC coaches at any level. An award of up to $750 will be distributed to the successful applicant(s).

Jenny John Officiating Bursary: The Jenny John Officiating bursary is designed to support the professional development of FHBC umpires and technical officials.  An award of up to $750 will be distributed to the successful applicant(s).
