2018 Field Hockey BC Volunteer Recognition Awards
This awards event, currently in its eleventh year, was designed to provide Field Hockey BC with the opportunity to recognise members of our community who have contributed endless hours of time and energy to assist the Society in delivering extended opportunities to those involved with field hockey in BC. We hope that the following voluntary recognition awards go some way to expressing our gratitude for the difference you make to our sport.
A volunteer is defined as “a person who freely offers to undertake a task”. Our field hockey community has a great many volunteers and tonight we again recognise those that have played a role in assisting our sport at a provincial, regional, and local level. Field Hockey BC hopes that the following voluntary recognition awards go some way to expressing our gratitude for the difference you make to our sport.
In the category of Athlete Program Support, Field Hockey BC would like to recognise:
Corrie Guraliuk – Managerial Support
Corrie has been volunteering her time within Field Hockey BC programming for a great many years, not just in the area of team management but also as a voluntary technical official. In many cases Corrie seemingly finds the extra time in her schedule to assist us in both capacities at the same event, something for which we remain truly grateful. In 2018 Corrie was an extraordinary resource to Field Hockey BC, not only in the management of teams but also in the management of individual athletes who required assistance in navigating both Field Hockey BC and Field Hockey Canada commitments. Corrie agreed to take on a team management role with Team BC at this years National Championships in Toronto, volunteering to stay on and chaperone athletes in the lead into the National program camp that followed, and in doing so created a safe and enjoyable environment that gave BC parents assurance as to their child’s safety and well-being.
It is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a 2018 voluntary recognition award to Corrie Guraliuk.
Roger Goodwin – Managerial Support
Over the course of the last three seasons, Roger Goodwin has volunteered to take on the considerable task of athlete program management and has done so at both the regional and provincial level. Roger has an extraordinary attention to detail and will not rest until the job has been completed in its entirety – Even if this means tracking down uniforms from different pockets of the province and returning them to us in good order! In 2018, Roger was an absolute stand-out candidate not only managing his own team but also assisting other voluntary managers, especially at this years National Championships in Toronto, Ontario. Roger is a fantastic resource, a dedicated team-player with an approachable demeanor, and has an ‘anything is possible’ attitude.
It is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a 2018 voluntary recognition award to Roger Goodwin.
In the category of Governance Support, Field Hockey BC would like to recognise:
Sue Demuynck
2018 saw Sue Demuynck step down as Field Hockey BC President after the maximum allowable three terms and six years in office. Many of us would be correct in thinking that following six years of voluntary service as President to a Provincial Sports Organization, one could enter voluntary retirement with a sense of great satisfaction. And whilst such satisfaction is truly deserved, Sue’s last voluntary governance role as President of Field Hockey BC reflects only a mere fraction of a far more significant contribution to field hockey in BC. Sue has in fact been an integral member of the field hockey governance family for over forty years. Since joining the BC Women’s Field Hockey Federation Executive in 1974, Sue has been ever present holding a multitude of roles right up until the BC Women’s Field Hockey Federation amalgamated with the BC Men’s Field Hockey Association to become Field Hockey BC in 2005. And upon amalgamation, what did Sue do…she immediately volunteered to lead the strategic direction of the Women’s High-Performance athlete portfolio, then proceeded to add the Men’s High-Performance Portfolio to her responsibilities, before taking on the role of Vice-President and then President to the Field Hockey BC Board of Directors. Sue has been integral in helping to shape and guide field hockey development in BC over a period of 44 years and whilst she may have stepped down in a direct governance capacity, Sue is still passionate about continuing her role as a technical official and within this in the mentorship of new and existing volunteers active in the support of event and competitive hosting. For her dedication to Field Hockey BC and her seemingly endless support for field hockey across Canada, it is our pleasure to present a voluntary contribution award to Sue Demuynck.
Eric Broom
Field Hockey BC was extremely fortunate in 2008 to have Eric Broom volunteer to take on the role of Coaching Director to the Field Hockey BC Board of Directors, a role he continued in for close to a decade. A legend in the Canadian Coach Education system, Eric continued to bring his vast knowledge and experience to the fore in driving the quality of coach educational delivery in BC, and in helping coaches to shape the athlete program environment we see today. A master learning facilitator for all things NCCP, Eric continues to deliver formal coach education to all levels of our sport and we are delighted that Eric has recently agreed to be a principal resource in the delivery of coaching ethics, safety, and long-term athlete development as Field Hockey BC prepares to launch a new community coach education pathway in 2019.
It has been an absolute pleasure to have served with Eric on the Field Hockey BC Board of Directors and it is our pleasure to recognize Eric’s significant voluntary contribution to our sport with the presentation of a 2018 voluntary contribution award.
Paul Chohan
Paul Chohan has been a long-serving executive member at both a club and provincial level with Field Hockey BC and continues to serve as a valuable resource when considering the development of field hockey at all levels. Paul first volunteered to serve on the Field Hockey BC Board of Directors in 2008 in the capacity of Umpiring Director and served two terms before volunteering to take on the Business Development Portfolio. During his time as a Field Hockey BC Board Member, Paul was instrumental in the development and execution of the Field Hockey BC umpire mentorship program and assisted in the development and launch of the Field Hockey BC Foundation, a charitable arm of Field Hockey BC’s service delivery which each year awards grants and bursaries to assist athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers to further their opportunities within field hockey.
For his dedication to Field Hockey BC and his continuing role at the community club level, it is our pleasure to present a voluntary contribution award to Paul Chohan.
The FHBC Community Club and League Awards – as nominated by their respective membership:
Al Chorley – West Vancouver Field Hockey Club (Unable to Attend)

Karen Gray accepted the award on behalf of Al Chorley.
Al Chorley has been a member of the Men’s Field Hockey Team for the last 6 years, encouraging other players and managing the D team specifically. When he is not playing on the turf, he is frequently cleaning it. He has put in hundreds of hours cleaning leaves and debris off of the field and the spectator areas, keeping the fields clean and safe. Most notably though, Al Chorley stepped up over the last 3 years to coach the men’s recreational teams and run the practices. This is in addition to volunteering to assist in coaching for the juniors in the Spring League. There is no way to easily measure the contribution that Al has made to the West Vancouver Field Hockey League, but his impact will be felt for generations.
It is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a community voluntary recognition award to Al Chorley. Accepting this award on behalf of Al was Field Hockey BC’s Business Development Director, Karen Gray.
Cassandra (Sandy) Zinkowski – Field Hockey Victoria
Sandy Zinkowski has long been a valuable member of the Victoria field hockey community both as a coach in junior league, a player in women’s league and as the go-to athletic therapist. Outside of her playing and coaching commitments, Sandy has volunteered her time either as an athletic therapist on site or has been the coordinator to assure qualified staff are at the field for Victoria-hosted tournaments including the Bridgman Cup and a variety of regional and provincial high school championships. Often times when Sandy is at the field, not in an official capacity as an athletic therapist, she has been called over to the field for injuries or treatment of a different game. She has never hesitated to give her time to help, even if it means missing part of her game. Sandy is a valuable member of the island field hockey committee both for her expertise as an athletic therapist but also for her years of commitment to the community as a volunteer, coach and player.
It is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a community voluntary recognition award to Sandy Zinkowski.
Oscar D’Mello – Surrey Sharks Field Hockey Club
The Surrey Sharks Field Hockey Club would like to recognize Oscar D’ Mello for his incredible dedication to the club since 2006. In that time, he has served as President and on the executive. He has coached both Juniors Girls and Senior Women’s teams and Oscar was instrumental in creating the very popular 7-aside Sharks tournament which still occurs annually. He has represented and advocated for the club with the city and still provides turf representation. He continues to play and umpire for the club and we value his contributions. It is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a community voluntary recognition award to Oscar D’Mello.
Kathleen Wong – Richmond Field Hockey Club

Kathleen Wong (right) with Richmond FHC Board Member, Celina Fernandes.
Kathleen is currently the voluntary President of Richmond Field Hockey Club, a role she stepped up to take on over six years ago. Kathleen has modernized the club in the development and utilization of a multitude of media platforms including a new club website. She has been instrumental in developing athlete opportunities at the club, continues to champion young women in sport, and has built strong connections at the Municipal level. The Richmond Field Hockey Club is extremely grateful to be given this opportunity to nominate Kathleen.
It is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a community voluntary recognition award to Kathleen Wong.
2017 Field Hockey BC Volunteer Recognition Awards
Preet Sidhu – Managerial & Technical Support
Preet is a great volunteer who throws herself into all aspects of field hockey volunteerism, whether it be at the club level, as a coach, a manager, or a technical official. Her communication to athletes is exemplary, rarely having to go over things twice as the athletes and parents are in the know about everything.
Preet’s Team BC Coaches wished to highlight that Preet simply allows them to coach and complete tasks without any concern for the managerial side of the team. She is an absolute pro!
For her dedication to team management and her seemingly endless support for field hockey, it is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a voluntary contribution award to Preet Sidhu.
Jim Knight – Managerial & Coach Support

Madge Johnson accepted the award on behalf of Jim Knight. (Inset) Jim pictured with two of his children, Lexi & Ryan Knight.
Jim embodies the stereotype of the same people stepping up, helping and volunteering for everything. This summer was not Jim’s first time volunteering to manage a team, as he has volunteered in varying capacities for a number of years. At the National Championships this summer, Jim was basically living at the field. He was doing double duty with two children playing in games. When his daughter’s game finished, he would rush over to the dressing room and help organize the boy’s team with all the mundane things that managers have to do. He was genuine about his care for the team, he had great insight and pointers for the boys during and after games and did a great job keeping the BC Rams organized. He really stepped up to do whatever needed to be done to help the coaches focus on their job.
Jim’s Team BC Coaches wish to ass that Jim is the kind of guy that you can always count on to help out. It is always so wonderful to have supportive people step up and do some of the behind-the-scenes tasks that get no glory and do it with a smile on their face. It really is quite fitting for Field Hockey BC to honour Jim with this award. It really couldn’t go to a nicer guy.
Field Hockey BC is proud to honour Jim with this award. Regrettably, Jim was unable to attend the Awards Dinner, so Madge Johnson, Field Hockey BC Vice-President, accepted the award on his behalf.
Glenda Schoenroth – Managerial Support

Alan Waterman accepted the award on behalf of Glenda Schoenroth (inset).
Glenda is a phenomenal manager who takes a great deal of pride in making the team environment as professional as possible. Throughout her work with teams, she has also taught the girls a lot about being high performance athletes. During the National Championships this past summer, Glenda kept the athletes on track with their hydration, snacks, and recovery and definitely went well above and beyond the call of duty on many an occasion. Moreover, Glenda is always willing to lend a hand to the Field Hockey BC staff and continuously helps make managing high performance athletes that much easier.
Glenda’s Team BC Coaches wish to add that Glenda was an integral part of the staff team. She took the initiative at every opportunity and never had to be asked to do anything. It was a pleasure to have her on board.
Field Hockey BC is pleased to honour Glenda with a voluntary contribution award. Regrettably Glenda was not able to attend the Awards Dinner, so Alan Waterman accepted the award on her behalf.
In the category of Event Management, Field Hockey BC would like to recognise:
Sue Demuynck
Whilst it is recognized that Sue continues to give her time in a governance capacity with Field Hockey BC, as Sue is now in her fourth decade as an active governance member – something she may not wish to be reminded of but something she should rightly be extremely proud of, and something we continue to be very thankful for! It is, however, in the category of Event Management that we recognize Sue this year.
Over the last twelve years in particular, Sue Demuynck has been technical director, advisor, judge, and officer for a multitude of local, regional, provincial, national, and international events across BC and Canada. It is actually hard to remember a direct delivery Field Hockey BC event that Sue has not volunteered for, or led, over this considerable period of time. In addition, Sue took on the role of Tournament Director for the BC High School Championships for five consecutive years, stepping down this past year, and has been instrumental in helping to facilitate the UBC High School Tournaments in each of the last three years.
Always willing to give her time and most significantly pass on her vast knowledge and experience; there will come a time when Sue decides to take a well-earned rest; but we do hope that she will continue to give back tot he sport she loves a little while longer.
It is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present this Voluntary Contribution Award for Event Management to Sue Demuynck.
The FHBC Community Club and League Awards – as nominated by their respective membership:

Alan Waterman accepted the award on behalf of Taranjeet Hehar.
Mr. Taranjeet Hehar continues to make a tremendous impact in our sports community. He became part of the West Coast Kings Field Hockey Club as Vice-President in 2011. Since joining the Club, he has been integral to the organization of the Canada Cup international field hockey tournament held annually in Surrey. Throughout the year he takes on key roles to ensure the success of the Canada Cup tournament, as well as for all West Coast Kings Club teams competing in local leagues and events. He took on the role of President in 2015 and continues to help shape the Club into delivering one of the most successful events in Canada.
Gurjit Sidhu – Gobind Sarvar
With his elite level of play, eccentric leadership methods, and humble personality, Gurjit is a perfect package when it comes to being a great volunteer and coach. Gurjit has coached many teams ranging from Under 10 youth teams to higher level Team BC junior teams, to men’s recreation and competitive division teams. Gurjit has always given his time and field hockey knowledge for free and is always willing to lend a helping hand within the field hockey community. Even when he is unable to give time, his love for the kids and passion for the sport has always found a way to inspire others. He has helped build the junior divisions at the Club and under his guidance the Gobind Sarvar junior team has won the Club Championships four years in a row! As much as he will so humbly deny that he deserves this recognition, we think he is infinitely more deserving than anyone we know.
On behalf of Gobind Sarvar, it is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a community voluntary recognition award to Gurjit Sidhu.
Shelley Tapp – West Vancouver Field Hockey Club
Shelley has been a member of the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club for a number of years, playing in the Women’s League programs. The Club nominated Shelley for this award due to her integral role in helping the Club host the FIH World League 2 tournament in April 2017. From November 2016 onwards, Shelley was in charge of coordinating the many volunteers involved in the event, including recruiting, organizing schedules, training and ensuring that they had everything they needed for their roles. Shelley worked tirelessley in this role, putting in a large number of hours – and always greeting everyone with a smile. It is only with people like Shelley that we can successfully organize and host these large scale events.
On behalf of the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club, it is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a community voluntary recognition award to Shelley Tapp.
Tim Pilkington – VRC Jokers Field Hockey Club
The Vancouver International Tournament (VIT) would not be the same without the warp stick beer garden! It is a place for teams to hang out before and after games and for all teams to socialize together. Tim Pilkington took the lead yet again at this year’s VIT to organize it. Sourcing out the best products to sell, making posters, and organizing our team to help with set up/take down, as well as the oh so important serving! The Jokers are grateful to the effort that Tim took to make sure the beer garden was the place to be for the weekend.
On behalf of the VRC Jokers Field Hockey Club, it is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a community voluntary recognition award to Tim Pilkington.
2016 Field Hockey BC Volunteer Recognition Awards

We hope that the following voluntary recognition awards go some way to expressing our gratitude for the difference you make to our sport.
A volunteer is defined as “a person who freely offers to undertake a task”. Our field hockey community has a great many volunteers and tonight we again recognise those that have played a role in assisting our sport at a provincial, regional, and local level. Field Hockey BC hopes that the following voluntary recognition awards go some way to expressing our gratitude for the difference you make to our sport.
In the category of Governance Support, Field Hockey BC would like to recognise:
Gillian Batey

Gillian pictured with her daughter, Sloane.
It is our pleasure to recognise Gillian for her leadership role on behalf the field hockey community in British Columbia. Gillian stepped down from her role as Umpiring Director for the Field Hockey BC Board of Directors this past spring after four years in the role.
During this time, Gillian has been a central figure in driving the strategic direction and supporting structure for officiating at Field Hockey BC and in doing so, has contributed to the Society being regarded as one of the top Provincial Sport Organizations in British Columbia. Gillian has volunteered her time to mentor young and experienced umpires alike at all manner of local, regional, and national tournaments, continues to work within junior and senior leagues, and is an invaluable resource as we look to continue to improve standards in officiating across BC. It is with some sadness that we see Gillian step down from her governance role with Field Hockey BC, but we hope that this award goes some way to express our sincere gratitude for her leadership.
In the category of Event Hosting Support, Field Hockey BC would like to recognise:
Michelle Savich
There has certainly been a resurgence in field hockey activity in the Fraser Valley, none more so than at the Chilliwack Pink Panthers Field Hockey Club, under the leadership of Michelle Savich. Chilliwack Pink Panther Teams now regularly compete in all manner of events, involving both senior and junior teams.
Over the past two seasons, the Chilliwack Pink Panthers have taken point in hosting the Under 18 Girls Club Championships, and during this time club volunteers under the direction of Michelle have worked tirelessly to create a welcoming atmosphere for all teams and to ensure that the event runs smoothly, both on and off the field. It is our pleasure to recognise Michelle for her commitment and leadership, and we hope this award goes some way to thanking you for your significant voluntary efforts.
Joel King & Justin Van Der Putten
Over the last eleven years, the Jokers Field Hockey Club have partnered with Field Hockey BC in the hosting of the Vancouver International Tournament, and most significantly have managed the single most important social aspect of the event, that being the Community Beer Garden. Some might say that the running of a beer garden has some obvious merit, but the organisation and time commitment required is very significant, and that is why we would like to take this opportunity to recognise and thank both Justin and Joel for all their time in ensuring this essential service is managed in a seamless fashion.
In recognition of their commitment, it is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to recognise Justin and Joel as voluntary award recipients this year.
In the category of Event Management, Field Hockey BC would like to recognise:
Sue Jameson
Over the last 11 years, Sue Jameson has been technical advisor, judge, officer and director for a multitude of local, regional, provincial, national, and international events across BC and Canada. Technical officiating across the World is still very much a voluntary occupation and Field Hockey BC is extremely fortunate to have a number of dedicated and extremely knowledgeable technical officials, none more so than Sue Jameson. Sue is one of a team of individuals committed to giving of their time to create a first-class environment for athletes and their coaches to play and compete. It is fitting that Sue follows other technical officials that have been honored to receive voluntary contribution awards. In fact, every one of our annual athlete, coach and official award winners this evening will have been involved in at least one event officiated under Sue’s guidance.
Words cannot express the level of due diligence and professionalism Sue brings to her voluntary role in event management, and after so many years it would be fitting to allow Sue and her husband Morley some time together during event season, but truth be told, we hope Sue will continue to give back to the sport she loves for a little while longer – Sorry Morley!
The FHBC Community Club and League Awards – as nominated by their respective membership:
Stan Bennett has held the position of 2nd Vice President for Cowichan Field Hockey Club for a number of years now, he is one of the junior coaches, has been directly involved in Cowichan’s indoor program for many years, he plays point in the distribution of uniforms and equipment for the club and has spent many hours building equipment for the club, including the equipment locker used to this day. We hope this award goes some way to thanking Stan for all that he has done for the club.
Heather Goodman has volunteered countless hours during the years her daughters have been involved with Cowichan Field Hockey Club. She is an organizer extraordinaire, helping co-ordinate field hockey events for our members of all ages. Heather was the Junior Coordinator for five years and is currently the club’s 2ndVice President. We again hope that this award goes some way to show the Club’s appreciation.
Udham Hundal – West Coast Kings Field Hockey Club
Udham Hundal has made a tremendous impact on sport and cultural activities for adults and children alike. He has been instrumental in building field hockey in his local community and in helping create the West Coast Kings Field Hockey Club. He has been organizing the International field hockey Tournament since 2008 and along with other society members has been organizing the Canada Cup international hockey tournament since 2011. The success of the Canada Cup is all because of his hard work and dedication along with other society members. Healthy competition for field hockey among the community youth has emerged and it has given a lot encouragement to youth in society. With his dedication he has enriched the lives of many generations especially youth by serving as a role model and mentor. Udham has achieved excellence in his field of work and made significant, observable changes to the Canadian sports community.
On behalf of the West Coast Kings Field Hockey Club, it is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a community voluntary recognition award to Udham Hundal.
Chris Baggott – West Vancouver Field Hockey Club
Most clubs rely on a handful of families to keep the lights on. At West Vancouver Field Hockey Club it is the Baggott family. Unfortunately for Chris, he is the last in a long line of dedicated Field Hockey volunteers. He is still hoping for a younger brother to take over! It’s looking like he might have to wait for the next generation.
Chris took over the West Van Field Hockey Club’s Men’s division in 2012 and has provided a quietly competent and very steady hand. Nobody really knows how much work Chris has put into the men’s club…. but it is much more than anyone else. He has expanded and grown the men’s side because of his diligence to signing up people and staying on top of league issues. Plus his umpiring has improved dramatically since he has been forced to umpire so many games that no one else volunteers for. Huge thanks to Chris; the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club Men would not exist without him.
On behalf of the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club, it is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to present a community voluntary recognition award to Chris Baggott.
2016 Field Hockey BC Volunteer Recognition Awards
A volunteer is defined as “a person who freely offers to undertake a task”. Our field hockey community has a great many volunteers and tonight we again recognise those that have played a role in assisting our sport at a provincial, regional, and local level. Field Hockey BC hopes that the following voluntary recognition awards go some way to expressing our gratitude for the difference you make to our sport.
In the category of Athlete Program Support, Field Hockey BC would like to recognise:
Heather Goodman
Heather is one of the busiest people we know with an incredible ability to manage multiple Field Hockey BC programs at the same time on the Island. Heather was involved with both Regional and Provincial Programs as a manager last season and has daughters in the Learn to Train, Train to Train and Train to Compete stages!
Heather is a crucial resource for Field Hockey BC as she answers numerous questions from families, sorts out logistics, sends out clear communication, takes beautiful action shots and makes time for the small things that make a big difference. Heather is a perennial champion, we are so lucky to have the opportunity to work with her and we hope in some small way this award shows our gratitude for everything she does.
Robbee Swan
Robbee has been a leader for Field Hockey BC in the Interior because of her involvement as a Manager for both Regional and Provincial Programming. This past season she managed squads in both programs which involved countless hours sorting out carpooling, team get-togethers, communications and more! Robbee is a joy to work with because of her proactivity and desire to help anywhere she can to make these programs successful. In addition, Robbee has always been an important voice for Field Hockey BC in the Interior in spreading the word so families know about opportunities to play field hockey.
In the category of Event Hosting Support, Field Hockey BC would like to recognise:
Sophie Pilkington
Two years ago Sophie took over the unenviable task of managing the Beer Garden operations for the Vancouver International Tournament, an event hosted by Field Hockey BC. Some might say that this job has some obvious merit, but this is very much an essential service in Field Hockey BC’s hosting of this event, and the organisation and time commitment required is significant. With the support of her husband, Tim, the Pilkington’s have taken point in enhancing this event and have always done so with a smile on their face.
In the category of Facility Support, Field Hockey BC would like to recognise:
Jo-Ann Harrington
Jo-Ann continues to be a key contributor to the programs and services offered by the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club. In her role as facility coordinator Jo-Ann has and continues to be a huge asset to both the Club and to Field Hockey BC in the coordination of field times and field allocation on the North Shore. We cannot thank Jo-ann enough for her continued support. Eric Broom, Coaching Director on FHBC’s Board of Directors, accepted the award on her behalf.

She can also be relied upon to umpire at club, regional and Provincial tournaments throughout the year. She also coached many of our U11-U18 junior Teams and worked with Field Hockey BC as a Team BC coach. Charlotte is a positive role model demonstrated by her reliability, knowledge and commitment to the sport. We are lucky to have her as part of the field hockey community!
Anne Smith – Cowichan Field Hockey Club
Anne has been an active player and junior coach with Cowichan Field Hockey for many years. Anne was our indoor junior coordinator and has been the clubs secretary and registrar for over 5 years – which is a huge undertaking! If we need a volunteer, Anne is there. She has helped on countless committees and at junior, ladies, and indoor tournaments. I can’t begin to add up all of the volunteer hours she has given to the club. Accepting the award on behalf of Anne is Heather Goodman.
Baljinder Grewal – United Brothers Field Hockey Club
Baljinder has been associated with the United Brothers Field Hockey Club for last 7 years and has been coaching the clubs Under 14 to Under 18 programs ever since. He is a very dedicated volunteer coach and has led Under 18 boys’ team to three provincial championships. He also coached as part of the Boys U15 Team BC program for nationals. Baljinder is a huge asset to the club and we hope this award goes some way in expressing our gratitude.

It is our pleasure to recognise Shayne for her leadership role on behalf the field hockey community in British Columbia. Shayne stepped down from her role as Finance Director for the Field Hockey BC Board of Directors this past spring after three and a half years in the role.
During this time, Shayne has been a central figure in driving the strategic direction and supporting structure at Field Hockey BC and in doing so, has contributed to the Society being regarded as one of the top Provincial Sport Organizations in British Columbia. It is with some sadness that we see Shayne step away, and we hope that this award goes some way to express our sincere gratitude for her leadership.
This award is presented by Sue Demuynck, President of Field Hockey BC.
Pat Hall
Field Hockey BC is proud to recognise the considerable contribution of Pat Hall to the sport of field hockey over a voluntary career spanning 50 years. This year saw Pat retire from her most recent position on the VILFHA executive as Director of Operations. Outside of her voluntary duties on the executive, Pat was a player from 1961-88, helped co-found the Victoria Junior League in 1967 and was umpiring regularly until 2000. Pat’s list of volunteer contributions is endless and includes being a B.C. or Victoria representative with Field Hockey BC (formerly BC Women’s Field Hockey Federation), Field Hockey Canada (formerly the Canadian Women’s Field Hockey Association), the South Island Umpires Association and the Victoria Junior Field Hockey Association. Pat has been the honoured recipient of the Field Hockey BC Barbara Schrodt Award, a BC Women’s Field Hockey Federation Gold Pin Volunteer recipient, as well as, a Sport BC’s President’s Award recipient, to name but a few. Her list of contributions are endless, her volunteer time to the sport unmeasurable and her passion for the growth of field hockey and women in sport is infinite. It is a true pleasure to recognise Pat at this year’s dinner.

In the category of Athlete Program Support, Field Hockey BC would like to recognise:
Neil McLennan
It is Field Hockey BC’s pleasure to recognise the significant contribution that Neil McLennan has made to Coaching and Athlete Mentorship within the provincial Team BC program. Neil has guided the development of provincial athletes for a period of thirteen consecutive years, only stepping down this past summer. Neil continues to coach at a club and high school level, but in recognition of his commitment to Team BC athlete development, it is our pleasure to present a token of our gratitude to Neil at this year’s Dinner.
This Award is presented by Mark Saunders, Executive Director at Field Hockey BC
Ian MacKenzie
Ian’s nomination for this award goes without question. He played a vital role as Team BC Manager for the boy’s Train to Train White team. Ian was there to ensure things went smoothly for the boys on and off the pitch all season long. He was also tasked with the challenge of getting the team to Brampton, Ontario for Nationals which meant he became an instant ‘Dad’ to 16 excited teenagers, many of whom were traveling without their parents for the first time. Ian’s calm demeanor and thoughtfulness went a long way towards helping the team feel comfortable in their new surroundings and this certainly showed on the field. FHBC greatly appreciates all of Ian’s efforts!
This Award is presented by Eric Broom, Coaching Director at Field Hockey BC.
Deb Reidl
Deb is extremely deserving of this award. She managed teams in both the Regional and Provincial Programs and spent many hours emailing, planning activities, coordinating transport, billeting and making sure the kids had enough snacks and drinks at the pitch. Deb was very well prepared for the role having helped out with ice hockey for many years and her SUV was packed with anything the team might need. Her positive attitude and ‘get er done’ attitude made it an absolute pleasure for the FHBC staff to work with her, especially considering the many roster changes that occurred during the program. Thank you to Deb!
This Award is presented by Colleen Reay, Athlete Program Manager at Field Hockey BC.
In the category of Event Hosting Support, Field Hockey BC would like to recognise:
Mike Gunning
Over the past 3 years Mike Gunning, and the Delta Falcons Field Hockey Club, have hosted the Under 18 Girls Club Championships. Mike has played an important role in covering most logistical aspects of club championship hosting, from taking care of administrative functions to helping on the field to ensure that the tournament operates according to plans. He is a great resource and we hope this award goes some way to expressing our gratitude for his efforts.
This Award is presented by Paul Chohan, Business Development Director at Field Hockey BC.
Alisa Carey
Alisa has been involved with hosting the U12 Girls Club Championship Festival for the past 3 years. During this time, she has assisted in creating a welcoming atmosphere for all teams and she always works hard to ensure that the event runs smoothly, both on and off the field. This past year and on behalf of Richmond Field Hockey Club, she kindly organized and arranged to give each girl that participated in the festival a small gift to take away as a souvenir. It is our pleasure to recognise the contribution of Alisa at this year’s Dinner.
This Award is presented by Mark Saunders, Executive Director at Field Hockey BC.

Patrick Oswald
Patrick was a very helpful assistant at the Under 12 Boys Club Championship Festival this season. The Hawks have hosted club championships for a number of years, but this year Patrick became involved as an umpire mentor for all of the umpires involved in the festival. He worked tirelessly promoting umpiring and certification to all the youngsters on the turf and he has played an instrumental role in the success of the Vancouver Hawks umpire mentorship program. It seems Patrick finds a new way each season to make a difference to our sport and this award certainly compliments previous recognitions in club and league governance and provincial team management. Thank you Patrick.

Pat Macleod – West Vancouver Field Hockey Club
Pat has been an inspirational leader in WVFHC for many years. She has been a significant player, coach and senior administrator yet her major accomplishment has been President of the WVFHC Facilities Society and the key driver to finally get a state of the art, international Field Hockey surface in West Vancouver. For the past decade, she has battled through broken promises, cricket club bombs, shattered Hugo Ray dreams, previous indifferent WV councils and parks departments, other vehemently opposed field sport organizations and demoralized sponsors to achieve the dream of opening a first class facility – Rutledge Field in Ambleside. She has been relentless in pursuing this dream and has been an inspiration for those of us privileged to be part of this team to finally get the first field hockey pitch on the North Shore. The WVFHC Club Executive believe that she is a very worthy recipient of the FHBC Voluntary Contribution Award for 2011.
