 Athlete Programs - Women Minimize

The BC Women’s Athlete Programs are arguably the most successful in Canada. Adapting and advancing to meet the needs of our growing athlete talent base, the programs aim to provide opportunity for the best athletes to reach their full potential in field hockey. Annually, the FHBC Athlete Programs for women involve approximately 330 athletes. In 2012, a new development program within the pathway, titled Learn to Train, was introduced for U13 athletes. It's an excellent opportunity for young athletes to work on technical skill development.

The Field Hockey BC Regional and Provincial Athlete Programs in our province are structured in the following way for girls:

Learn to Train Program (U13)
Regional - weekly training in the spring, culminating with a summer Festival.

Train to Train Program (U15)
Regional - Fall trials. 40 hours weekly training from Fall to the Spring April Tournament.
Provincial - selected athletes from the regional program participate in weekend practices from June until the National Championships in July/August.

This program is for athletes interested in continuous, committed, high performance technical skill development from November-April and participation in a fun Festival in April. The program includes fitness testing and technical skills instruction from FHBC coaches.  The Regional Program is the first step in the provincial team athlete identification process and is mandatory for athletes interested in representing BC during the summer provincial season.

Train to Compete Program (U18)
Regional - Fall trials. 40 hours weekly training from Fall to the Spring April Tournament.
Provincial - regional athletes are selected in April for 30 hours training in May/June until the National Championships in July/August.

This program is for athletes interested in continuous, committed performance tactical and game training from November – April. The program includes fitness and sport science information along with outstanding coaching by university players and BC coaches. The Regional Program is the first step in the provincial team athlete identification process and is mandatory for athletes interested in representing BC.
